Teaching Kids life skills through the Love of Skiing Frequently Asked Questions Programs and Camps How big is the club? Kimberley Alpine Team consists of about 70 families from Cranbrook and Kimberley and coaches around 100 athletes. Which programs do you offer? Kimberley Alpine Team offers alpine ski programs for kids aged 5-18, as well as a gate training program for adults from 18 years old and over. You can read more about our programs here. We also offer camps during Christmas and Spring break. Those camps are the perfect opportunity for non-members to try out our programs and for members to spend more time on snow with our coaches. You can read more about our camps here. What skiing ability and experience should my child(ren) have? Any child from 6 and over must at a minimum be able to turn and stop on command, and be comfortable loading and sitting on the North Star Express. Children aged 5 will join groups with a lower coach/kids ratio so that coaches can provide assistance to each child. Children 10 years old and over should have spend a lot of time on snow before joining the program for the first time. At that age most of the kids have already been with the club for several years. What equipment do athletes need? Each athlete should have: skis, poles, boots and helmets good quality ski clothing to stay warm, dry and comfortable Five years old children don't need poles. It is also recommended to have hand warmers and a second pair of gloves that they can switch for at lunch time for those rainy days. Are parents required to participate? Members involvement is crucial to the the club. The coaching staff is paid to plan and deliver the programs. The administration and promotion of the club and the organization of events throughout the season is done by volunteers. Without the involvement of volunteers, the cost of running the club will be higher and we will have to ask more for our program fees. See our Volunteering page for more information. Note: this does not applies to non-members signing up their kids for camps to try out our programs. Do we have to buy lift tickets? Yes. The program and camp fees don't include lift tickets. It is the members' responsibility to obtain lift tickets or season passes before the start of the programs or camps. Check with RCR for more information about lift tickets and season passes. Do you have activities outside the ski season? We offer dryland (fitness activities) during the fall. The club also participate to local events like the Sam Steele Parade in Cranbrook and the JulyFest in Kimberley. Registration How do I register my kid(s) Head to our Registration page and select the program you are interested in. You will then be redirected to our registration platform to complete the registration. When can I register my child(ren)? Registration is generally open in September. Previous members and anyone who signed up for our newsletters will receive an email when registration opens. Do you offer family discounts? We offer the following discounts: $50 for the registration of two children, $300 for the registration of 3 or more children. Family discounts don't apply to camps. Discounts will be automatically deducted once the number of participants reaches two. What payment methods does the club accept? We accept payments by credit card via Paypal and by cheques to be mailed to Kimberley Alpine Team, P.O. Box 373, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 4H9. Note: PayPal's transaction fees (2.9% + 30 cent) are passed on to the members. Will I be charged transaction fees? PayPal's transaction fees (2.9% + 30 cent) are passed on to the members. When can I expect to receive my tax receipt Tax receipt be made available to the members at the latest by the end of February. Note: Program fee can only be claimed for the fiscal year the payment has been made. What funding programs are available to help with the registration cost? Their are some programs that can help you with the cost of the program. Our Discounts and Funding page is a good place to start. Why do I have to fill a Alpine Canada registration and waiver form? It is MANDATORY for all members to sign the ACA waiver. Members who have not signed the ACA waiver will NOT be covered by BC Alpine insurance. Races Is racing mandatory? No. We provide each participant opportunities to take part in racing event. Each kid is welcome to participate but doesn't ave to. Which race can my child(ren) attend? What should my child wear to a race? Do you have any training for adults who are interested in racing? We offer gate training for adults 18 years old and over.
